This is a pre-order for our newest sewing pattern and materials kit! A Pre-Order is when customers order an item in advance, before it is physically available in the shop, with the understanding that said item will ship at a later date.

Pre-Orders will open on Nov 21st, 2025 to close on Dec 5th, 2025. After the pre-order is officially closed, items ordered will be shipped within 2 to 3 weeks (possibly sooner!) Shipping notifications will be sent once the item(s) have shipped. PLEASE NOTE, we strongly recommend placing a separate order if you would like to purchase additional items from the shop and need them in a more timely manner. Otherwise we will do our best to combine shipping for your complete order.

Bonnets were popular for much of the 18th century. Black silk was by far the most common for 'whalebone bonnets', or boned bonnets, but other colors such as white and green were sometimes seen. Our kits include a choice of silk color.

The shape and style of this bonnet with its boned brim, is closely based on the example owned by the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, Accession # 1993.335. It is well suited for 1760s to 1780s era costumes and living history/reenactment events. Appropriate for all impressions from working class to upper and middling classes. This listing is for a printed pattern and materials kit, not a finished bonnet. Please contact us directly for custom orders.

Please select silk color from dropdown menu. All Boned Bonnet Kits include the following:

  • 2/3 yard silk taffeta
  • Silk ribbon for tie
  • Synthetic whalebone
  • Spool of thread
  • Paper pattern
  • Step by step instructions, with both color and black and white photos.
