1940s Purple Hooded Dress
The vintage collector's holy grail, a hooded dress! This stunning 1940s purple rayon jersey is not without flaws but has plenty of life and charm left. It features a smocked waist and gathered bodice, pleated skirt, tulip sleeves and a real, functional hood. Not a back drape that some sellers try to pass off as a hood.
Condition - There is significant face throughout the gown, most noticeable on the sleeves and around the hem. However it almost looks intentional in some light, as the color fades from the grape purple to a softer purple hue. (The bright sunlight makes it looks a bit worse than in person.) There are a few scattered spots that may lift with cleaning. I note a few tiny holes on the left sleeve and two near the hip. These can be mended by a skilled hand, I just don't have the time. The hem is slightly uneven. Despite it's flaws this is one of the best pieces I've some across. I have additional photos if needed.
Shown unpinned on a dress form measuring 34-26.5-34. There is a fair amount of stretch in the fabric but don't recommend going much beyond the measurements below.
Bust - 32/35
Waist - 24/28
Hips - up to 38 comfortably
Shoulders - 11 1/2
